On approving the conditions of international accreditation for healthcare service providers
Current text on matsne.gov.ge (Georgian)Providers of ambulatory, day-hospital and laboratory services must submit a copy of their international accreditation or ISO certificate to the Ministry.
- Who it applies to
- Inpatient, ambulatory and day-hospital providers in the state Universal Health Coverage programme. Providers under the “Village Doctor” sub-programme are exempt.
- Accreditation Canada
- First on the list of accreditation bodies recommended by the Order.
- Alternatives
- Ambulatory providers may use ISO 9001. Laboratories must hold ISO 15189 unless the facility is internationally accredited.

Application
Our team completes the Accreditation Canada application form with you. We explain everything that is needed in Georgian and answer every question along the way.

Agreement
You receive a contract proposal within about a week. Once it is signed, the preparation period begins on the agreed terms.

Preparation
Your organization is assigned a dedicated adviser. We work on alignment with the standards, procedures, staff training and patient engagement, and finish with a mock survey.

Survey and decision
The survey visit is carried out by Accreditation Canada’s certified surveyors. The accreditation decision is made by Accreditation Canada.

An annual simulation that reproduces the real survey visit.

The office is operated by the Public Health Institute of Georgia. Our experts were trained by Accreditation Canada and are certified international surveyors.

Who makes the accreditation decision?
Only Accreditation Canada makes the decision, based on the findings of its surveyors’ on-site visit. The local team prepares and supports your organization, but it does not award accreditation.
Which organizations can be accredited?
Hospitals, outpatient clinics, laboratories and diagnostic centres. Accreditation Canada also runs dedicated programs for medical laboratories and diagnostic imaging services.
What language is the preparation in?
All consultations, meetings and training sessions are held in Georgian, and we explain every requirement of the standards in Georgian.
How long does preparation take?
It depends on the size of your organization and how ready it is today. We set a realistic timeline at the first consultation, once we have assessed your current position.
Is my organization required to be accredited?
If you take part in Georgia’s state Universal Health Coverage programme, Ministry of Health Order №4/N requires international accreditation. Ambulatory, day-hospital and laboratory providers must submit their certificate by 31 December 2026. See the Legislation page for details.
